At TITIKA, we are committed to sharing the highest quality active wear with our customers. Whether it’s running errands, or going on an actual run - we create garments that are made for busy lifestyles. Our inspiration comes from the confidence, hard work, and dedication of the ultimate ‘girl on the go’. Our next TITIKAxME girl is no exception to the rule. Megan Balestrini has been a part-time staff member at our London location for 2 years now. On top of working sales at a gym, she is also a fully certified yoga instructor. We chatted with Megan to discuss how she manages to do it all with unwavering positivity.
T Tell us a bit about yourself?
MB I’m 26 years old, and I have a degree in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. But as time went on, I realized that wasn’t really my passion. So, I got my yoga teacher certificate in Costa Rica 2 years ago. Now I work three jobs and I also teach yoga and volunteer a little too.
T Tell us a little bit about your volunteering?
MB It’s through the organization Big Brothers, Big Sisters. It’s a program called “Go Girls,” and it promotes healthy lifestyle with girls in Grade 7 and 8. We work with vulnerable girls that age and are mentors to them. We talk about healthy lifestyles with them, healthy body image and healthy eating.
T How do you stay so fit?
MB I do yoga, obviously. But honestly, I do lots. I love kickboxing, spin classes, you name it. Basically anything that I can move myself to do, I do it.
T What has been the biggest challenge in your life?
MB Balance. Trying to balance boyfriend, money, work, friends, working out. Just getting everything right and trying to take time for myself too.
T Who keeps you motivated?
MB Myself, for one, and also my friends and family - and just meeting my goals is great motivation for me.
T What’s your biggest accomplishment?
MB Doing my yoga teacher training was a really big deal for me. It was my first solo trip, going to Costa Rica, and staying there for the month. I stayed with 8 other girls in a one- bedroom dorm, so it was crazy. It was very physically and mentally challenging. Everyone was like “Oh, you’re going to Costa Rica for a month.” But it wasn’t like a holiday, it was really a great learning experience. It’s definitely one of the things I am most proud of.
T Name three things you’re loving right now.
MB I’m currently planning a trip to Europe, so I’m loving European style, and planning my itinerary. I love the Titika Lucky leggings, they’re amazing for yoga and running. And I’ve been obsessed with spin classes lately.
T What’s a typical day like for you?
MB I normally wake up really early. I try to do yoga about 5 times a week, so I’ll typically do my own practice and then I’ll go to work, and then I’ll teach yoga after work. After all of that, I’ll go out and see my friends and my boyfriend.
T What’s your favourite part about working at Titika?
MB It has to be a tie between the people and the clothes. There’s constantly new product coming out for us to get excited about. I don’t think I would work at a retail store that I didn’t believe in. I love the message behind Titika, about empowering women and being real. It’s a good environment.
